Prologue
Gaia was hurting, and her pain was growing. Her voice moved quietly through wind, water, and soil, but most humans—caught up in the business of living—no longer heard her call. They had forgotten how to listen. So she turned to the Ancient Ones and asked that a sleeper be awakened.
Jean lived a quiet, unnoticed life. She moved through her days with the sense that something was missing, an ache she could neither name nor understand. She did not know that ancient memory rested within her, waiting patiently beneath the surface of who she was.
She did not know she would be called. She did not yet know her destiny, or the companions who would walk beside her.
But when Gaia calls, even the smallest and quietest lives can be gently drawn into a story that changes the fate of the world.
